PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2006-01-01 NOTE = "Hints for opening THEMIS files in the NASAView software package" END_OBJECT = TEXT END NASAView is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) based display tool designed to open most PDS complient archive data products. The software is offered free for Sun/Solaris, Linux, Windows/NT/95, and PowerMac platforms at http://pdsproto.jpl.nasa.gov/Distribution/license.html. The THEMIS team has been and will continue to work with the PDS software engineers to maintain compatability between the currently available version of NASAView and the THEMIS standard data products. NASAView can be used to display the label and data contents of all THEMIS QUBE and IMG files. This file contains some basic instructions to display a THEMIS image in an open NASAView session; please contact the NASAView technical support for additional assistance and information. To view the label of a THEMIS file: OPTION 1- Open the file as text 1) select FILE from the top menu bar 2) select OPEN TEXT from the drop down menu 3) browse your system to find the THEMIS file you wish to open 4) select and OPEN the file OPTION 2- File is already open as an image (see below) 1) select LABEL from the top menu bar 2) select FULL LABEL from the drop down menu The label should now be displayed in an Label/Text View window with a scrollbar. When this window is activated, a new top menu bar is available to manipulate the text file. To open a THEMIS file: 1) select FILE from the top menu bar 2) select OPEN OBJECT from the drop down menu 3) browse your system to find the THEMIS file you wish to open 4) select and OPEN the file The file should now be displayed in an Image View window. The QUBE CONTROL CENTER can be used to bring higher numbered bands (if available) into the View window. Scanning through the BAND SELECTOR in the QUBE CONTROL CENTER will display each band in a new window stacked on top of the previous windows. The windows can be dragged aside for easier viewing; note however, once multiple windows of the same image have been generated, there is no easy way to tell which band is displayed in which window. (Also, this feature seems to break down with 1-band, VIS-RDR QUBEs) Click on the image window to activate it. The display bar at the bottom of the window gives the coordinates and the data value of the pixel under the mouse pointer. Once the window is activated, the image file can be manipulated in a variety of ways from the drop down menus in the top menu bar. To alter the way the image is displayed: OPTION 1- Automated stretch 1) select IMAGE from the top menu bar 2) select one of the stretch options from the drop down menu OPTION 2- Manual histogram stretch 1) select OPTIONS from the top menu bar 2) select VIEW HISTOGRAM from the drop down menu 3) adjust the median, minimum, and/or maximum displayed pixel value as desired; select another PALETTES if desired 4) select APPLY to see the results
